Earth Day Art Project

Friday we created tie-dye earth day art projects. We also are talking about ways to make the world a better place. I think Mrs. Crain got messier than the students in this project :)


Mealworms

This week we began researching and learning about insects. We welcomed mealworms into our classroom this week!



Good Citizen Research

This week we looked at using PebbleGo to research and compile information on people who can be categorized as good citizens.



Gardens In a Glove

We planted radish, basil, pea, carrot, and cucumber in gloves. We have been talking about life cycles and needs of plants. Ask your child the 2 ways plants can begin their life :)

Grass Planting

We have been learning about plants. The 2 ways plants begin (seed or bulb) and were excited to do a planting experiment!

We planted grass seed and are looking forward to letting it grow!



Achievement Fair

We had the Brimhall Achievement Fair March 21! We have a few of our students make some very interesting research projects. We learned a lot!

Character Parade

We had an all school spirit day for book characters. Students and staff dressed up as their favorite book character and we paraded to the assembly for the Read-a-thon! Congratulations to our 2 winners from our class! We had one person win one of the GRAND PRIZES!


Book Making with Mrs. G

We had a great time learning how to make 2 different books with Mrs. G. our book making teacher!
We will use the books we created for art/writing projects in the remainder of our year. Thank you to our volunteer who helped make the book making process go great!


5th Grade Concert

We watched the fifth graders practice their concert this week. Good time to remind ourselves of audience etiquette!

100th Day of School!

Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes

One of our class read aloud books from this year was Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. Each year after we finish the book we fold a paper crane as a class. We have 2 days under our belts! Many more steps to go! Patience, patience, patience is a lesson with this process.



African American History month

We finished our introduction week for African American History Month. We talked about words and phrases "civil rights movement," "good citizens," "segregation," "discrimination," and treating other following by the Golden Rule. Now every few days we will look at a new African American leader from various areas of life and see what made them a "good citizen."

"Fancy Nancy" Field Trip

We had a wonderful time seeing "Fancy Nancy" at Stages theater on Thursday! A huge thank you for our 2 parent volunteers! The kids enjoyed practicing their theater etiquette.

Artist in Residence

We had an artist in residence who works in graffiti art. He started a project with all first grade students on Tuesday in which they are creating the letters of their name in layered paper. The kids had a fun time!

Stone Soup

We read and talked about folktales and different versions of the same story in reading a Chinese and French version of Stone Soup. Here are some pictures of our process! It was a yummy learning experience. Thank you to all those families who donated items to create this masterpiece.

Bunco

We played Bunco Thursday afternoon prior to winter break. Thank you to our awesome volunteers who helped this fun event work seamlessly. We could not have done it without you!





Fourth Grade Buddies-The Mitten

We met with our fourth grade buddies before winter break and read The Mitten and then created the characters to be able to retell the story to people at home.



Liquids Science Week

Our week prior to winter break we continued our investigation of solids, liquids, and gases and how the adapt and change with heat and cold weather. We enjoyed learning about properties of liquids and how liquids can change solids.
