This week we looked at properties of solids and being able to define what a solid is. We defined terminology, sorted solids based of properties, and created solids towers!

Guided Reading- VIkings and Timberwolves

The Timberwolves read a book about Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindberg. To celebrate us all returning our guided reading homework we had a paper plane making and throwing contest!

The Vikings read about hot chocolate and different things we can do on very cold days. To celebrate our growth so far this year we enjoyed hot chocolate and read some great books together!

Asking and Telling Sentences

We have been talking this week about asking sentences (questions) and telling sentences (statements that end in a period). To show what we know we made owls and used telling sentences to give clues of our identity and then an asking sentence of "Whooo am I?"

1C reading party

On our half day we brought in our favorite stuffed animal and did different reading activities in the brief time we had. It was fun!

All School Learning Bingo

On our half day we played all school learning bingo! It was a great time and we guessed the mystery caller correct for one of the rounds and one a popcorn party!

Music Concert

We have a great Music teacher in Ms. Liadova! We were playing the xylophones and were asked if our class could show me what they had been working on. I think that we have some future professional musicians in our midst! Thank you Ms. Liadova for being the best!

Food Pyramid Classification Eating

We learned about healthy food in health. We sorted foods into the food groups and then tested our understanding by eating items and classifying them into the food groups. How delicious it was!

Mrs. Rabu's Economics lesson on saving

We did a lesson on saving with Mrs. Rabu. We read A Chair for my Mother and brainstormed what items we would save for and created a plan for how we would save the money for that item.

Buddies-BH Community is a safe and kind place

We met with our buddies this week to remind ourselves and our students that Brimhall is a safe, unified, and welcoming place. We joined our fourth grade buddies and read books together to remind our students that there are people other than their parents, grade level teachers, and BH staff that care about them!

W.I.N. time

Daily we have W.I.N. time. We are currently working on beginning medial letter sounds within words and recognizing certain letters can make a similar sound but we spelled differently (homophones to you and me). For example, xylophone begins with x but makes the "zzzz" sound.

Veteran's Day

We learned about and honored those we knew who have served or are currently serving in the military. We discussed the 5 branches of the military and how people sacrifice to keep us free and safe. Our students took this and really did some nice writings with our project!

Mr. Oyanagi & Beckett visit

Mr. Oyanagi (Mrs. Crain's dad) and Beckett came to visit and read to our class on Friday! The students enjoyed meeting Beckett and hearing Mr. Oyanagi try to be funny but wasn't :)

Solids, Liquids & Gases Introduction

Our Reading theme talked about solids, liquids, and gases and how they changed based off the amount of hot or cold that is applied to them. In our class book we read about an experiment to try converting liquids to solids and had to try it out. Thank you to Ms. Jass for organizing it for us. Quite a delicious experiment!

Class Behavior Reward

We earned our first class positive behavior award with our yellow tickets. We selected to get cheese balls for our special snack. It was amazing to see the growth in our short time together. We continue daily to remind ourselves of thinking how we individually can add to our classes respect, responsibility, and safety mission.

Applesauce Comparison

On our MEA short week we studied apples. We made homemade applesauce while learning how to read and work with recipes. We shared this applesauce with our fourth grade buddies and created a venn diagram comparing store bought applesauce with our homemade applesauce! It was a wonderful, fun day when we shared our delicious learning. A special thank you to the family who donated the apples for the applesauce!
